چکیده

Garzón et al. (1997), López-Corredoira et al. (1999) and Hammersley et al. (2000) have identified in TMGS and DENIS data a large excess of stars at l=27◦ and b=0◦ which might correspond to an in-plane bar. We compared near infrared CAIN star counts and simulations from the Besançon Model of Galaxy on 15 fields between 15◦ and 45◦ in longitude and -2◦ and 2◦ in latitude. Comparisons confirm the existence of an overdensity at longitudes lower than 27◦ which is inhomogeneous and decreases very steeply off the Galactic plane. The observed excess in the star distribution over the predicted density is even higher than 100%. Its distance from the sun is estimated to be lower than 6 kpc. If this overdensity corresponds to the stellar population of the bar, we estimate its half-length to 3.9±0.4 kpc and its angle from the Sun-center direction to 45±9 degrees.

The effect of variation of stellar dispersion velocities by the galactic latitude in interpreting gravitational microlensing observations

Our galaxy is a spiral galaxy and its stars are mostly in a thin disk and rotate around the galactic center. The vertical component of the dispersion velocity of stars is a function of the galactic latitude and decreases with increasing it. In the galactic Besancon model, this dependence is ignored and they just consider the dependence of dispersion velocity on the stellar age. Becanson model i...

The 6 - GHz methanol multibeam maser catalogue II : Galactic longitudes 6 ◦ to 20 ◦

We present the second portion of an unbiased survey of the Galactic plane for 6668MHz methanol masers. This section of the survey spans the longitude range 6◦ to 20◦. We report the detection of 119 maser sources, of which 42 are new discoveries. The masers are tightly constrained to the Galactic plane, with only four outside a latitude range of ±1◦. This longitude region includes the brightest ...

Modelling the Galactic Interstellar Extinction Distribution in Three Dimensions ⋆

Aims. The Two Micron All Sky Survey, along with the Stellar Population Synthesis Model of the Galaxy, developed in Besançon, is used to calculate the extinction distribution along different lines of sight. By combining many lines of sight, the large scale distribution of interstellar material can be deduced. Methods. The Galaxy model is used to provide the intrinsic colour of stars and their pr...

Modelling the Galactic Bar Using Red Clump Giants

The color-magnitude diagrams of ∼ 7×105 stars obtained for 12 fields across the Galactic bulge with the OGLE project reveal a well-defined population of bulge red clump giants. We find that the distributions of the apparent magnitudes of the red clump stars are systematically fainter when moving towards lower galactic l fields. The most plausible explanation of this distinct trend is that the G...

Pulsars and the Warp of the Galaxy

This paper studies the asymmetries of pulsar distributions relative to the Galactic plane in various Galactic longitudes. It is shown that the observed asymmetric distribution may be explained by the warped and flaring (i.e. increase of scale-height at the peripheries of the Galaxy) structure of the Galaxy. At the peripheries of the Galaxy, the amplitude of the warp, derived from these data, ma...
